Radical sensitivity and selectivity in the electrochemical sensing of cadmium ions in water by polyaniline-derived nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots

S. Saisree et al.

Summary: In this study, the sensing capability of nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) towards hazardous heavy metal ions, specifically cadmium ions (Cd(ii), was explored for the first time. The N-GQDs exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Cd(ii), with the lowest ever reported LOD value. The N-GQD/GCE showed efficient sensing performance in real environmental samples spiked with Cd(ii), meeting the sensitivity requirement for detecting Cd(ii) within safe limits specified by the U.S. EPA.
