Irvan Dahlan et al.

Summary: In this study, response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN) were used to investigate the adsorption process of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) using modified hydrogel. The results showed that higher removal and adsorption capacity of 2,4-D could be achieved at higher initial concentration, lower pH, and activated carbon content. The optimal design method of RSM had the highest accuracy for prediction and optimization. Bayesian Regularization method in ANN had the highest R-2 and lowest mean square error (MSE) with the optimum network architecture of 3:9:2. The RSM model was validated using the optimized neural network architecture.
