Green Growth, Green Technology, and Environmental Health: Evidence From High-GDP Countries

Zahid Hussain et al.

Summary: Green growth, as an exceptional strategy for sustainable development, is influenced by GDP, green technology, energy consumption, and environmental factors. This study investigates these effects from 2000 to 2020 in high-GDP countries and finds that GDP has both linear and nonlinear effects on green growth, while green technology enhances it. Energy consumption and emissions negatively impact green growth.

Carbon sequestration and water yield tradeoffs following restoration of abandoned agricultural lands in Mediterranean mountains

M. Khorchani et al.

Summary: Abandoned cropland areas have the potential to mitigate climate change through natural revegetation and afforestation programs, but there are tradeoffs between carbon sequestration and water availability. This study used an ecohydrologic model to quantify these tradeoffs in Mediterranean mountains and provide insights for restoration plans that address both carbon sequestration and water management objectives.

Vegetation, water infiltration, and soil carbon response to Adaptive Multi-Paddock and Conventional grazing in Southeastern USA ranches

Steven I. Apfelbaum et al.

Summary: The study finds that Adaptive Multi-Paddock (AMP) grazing results in higher vegetation biomass and plant species diversity. Invasive perennial plant species increase with AMP grazing in the south, while they increase with conventional continuous grazing in the north. Surface water infiltration and soil organic carbon stocks are higher on AMP grazed ranches.

Evaluation of provincial carbon-neutral capacities in the Yellow River basin using DPSIR

Jian Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the provincial carbon-neutral capacities in the Yellow River basin using a comprehensive evaluation index system and the global entropy method. The results show that the carbon-neutral capacities of the provinces in the Yellow River basin have developed rapidly from 2008 to 2019 and achieved a higher level. However, there is still room for improvement in the carbon-neutral capacities of seven provinces.

Environmental and energetic analysis of coupling a biogas combined cycle power plant with carbon capture, organic Rankine cycles and CO2 utilization processes

Gerardo G. Esquivel-Patino et al.

Summary: Using renewable energy technologies such as biomass power generation to combat climate change is an important alternative. This study proposes a matching scheme between a Biogas combined cycle power plant and postcombustion carbon capture process to capture CO2, produce value-added chemicals and fuels. It was found that global warming potential can be reduced through mass integration.

Perspective-the need and prospects for negative emission technologies-direct air capture through the lens of current sorption process development

Matthew J. Realff et al.

Summary: This paper provides a perspective on the development of direct air capture (DAC) as a leading candidate for implementing negative emissions technology (NET), focusing on sorption-based DAC technologies such as liquid and solid systems. It also analyzes the challenges these technologies will face and highlights the differences in mass transfer limitations between liquid and solid systems.

From Nearly Zero Energy to Carbon-Neutral: Case Study of a Hospitality Building

Francesco Causone et al.

Summary: This paper presents a definition of carbon-neutral building (CNB) based on available standards and scientific literature on life cycle assessment (LCA), and highlights the limitations of achieving carbon neutrality at the single urban building level in a case study. It suggests that carbon neutrality may be better approached at larger scales, such as city, regional, or national, where overarching policies can be defined.
