Optometric practices and attitudes in keratoconus patient management in Latin America

Summary: This study investigated the management of keratoconus in Latin America and compared it with European countries. The study found that Latin American eye care practitioners generally considered the fitting of rigid corneal lenses to be more difficult and required more diagnostic lenses. Additionally, the availability of corneal topography was low in Latin America, leading to a lower rate of detecting new keratoconus patients compared to practitioners with topographers. The study suggests the need to improve RCL training, enhance accessibility of eye-care technology, and encourage comanagement to minimize disease progression and its impact on patients' quality of life in Latin America.

Corneal transplantation for keratoconus in South Korea
