Eating behaviour, physical activity and lifestyle of Italian children during lockdown for COVID-19

Laura Censi et al.

Summary: During the lockdown in Italy in March 2020, the eating and physical activity habits of children deteriorated with older children and those in the Northern regions showing worse trends. Only a third of children maintained a Mediterranean Diet, with younger children scoring higher, while the majority stopped their habitual physical activity, particularly in the 6-11 age group. Children spent more time on devices, missed school and friends, and felt more bored and less creative. This highlights the urgent need for strategies to preserve children's health during and after pandemics.
