Physical and hydraulic properties of bioretention substrate using hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (HDTMA) modified zeolite

Potential exploration of Fe3O4/biochar from sludge as the media of bioretention system and its comparison with conventional media

Summary: The Fe3O4/biochar (BSF) prepared by adding pickling wastewater to modified sludge biochar could serve as a good adsorption performance and cheap media for bioretention system. Comparing the characteristics of BSF to other media, it was found that BSF has a larger specific surface area and pore volume, as well as better water-absorbing quality and hydraulic conductivity.

The role of biochar particle size and hydrophobicity in improving soil hydraulic properties

Results showed that hydrophobicity increased with smaller particle sizes, leading to reduced water retention capacity. Fine biochar particles decreased hydraulic conductivity, while coarse particles increased water retention due to hydrophilic surfaces and increased intraporosity.
