Anthracene-Bridged Sensitizers for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells with 37% Efficiency under Dim Light

Ching-Chin Chen et al.

Summary: New anthracene-bridged organic dyes CXC12 and CXC22 are designed and synthesized for high-efficiency dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) under dim light. The addition of anthracene-acetylene group in CXC dyes extends the pi-conjugation of the molecules, resulting in improved absorption and molar extinction coefficient. Among the three anthracene-based dyes, CXC22 shows the most appropriate molecular structure for light harvesting and balancing dye loading and molecular aggregation, achieving a remarkable power conversion efficiency of 37.07% under dim-light conditions.

Bulky 3D Structures of Dithienopyrrol Dye with Copper(II/I) Redox Mediator Enabling Efficient Solar Cells with an Open-Circuit Voltage of 1.13 V

Heng Wu et al.

Summary: Efficient suppression of interface recombination in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) is achieved by utilizing a novel photosensitizer C260A. The bulky auxiliary donor moiety in C260A leads to improved charge collection efficiency and reduced charge recombination rate. Furthermore, coadsorption of C260A and perylene dye C272 results in a highly efficient DSC.

Amphiphilic Indoline-Based Unsymmetrical Squaraine Dyes for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells: Modulating the Dye-TiO2/Electrolyte Interface for Nonaqueous and Aqueous Electrolytes

Ambarish Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: The study explored a series of amphiphilic indoline-based unsymmetrical squaraine dyes, where alkyl groups and glycolic chain were systematically modified to control self-assembly and improve interfacial properties. In nonaqueous DSSCs, increasing the number of carbon atoms in alkyl groups enhanced photovoltaic efficiencies. Addition of chenodeoxycholic acid improved efficiency, while increased carbon atoms in the alkyl groups had a detrimental effect on aqueous DSSC efficiency.

D-A-D Based Complementary Unsymmetrical Squaraine Dyes for Co-sensitized Solar Cells: Enhanced Photocurrent Generation and Suppressed Charge Recombination Processes by Controlled Aggregation

Ambarish Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: A series of unsymmetrical squaraine dyes based on donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) structure, with indoline and aniline as donor units, were synthesized to improve the performance of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) devices. The addition of alkyl groups on the donor units controlled the self-assembly of dyes on TiO2 and resulted in improved open circuit voltage (Voc) of the DSSC devices. The dyes demonstrated strong absorptions and efficient charge injection and dye regeneration processes. Additionally, co-sensitization with complementary light absorbing dyes further enhanced the DSSC performance.
