Meta-Analysis Comparing Distal Radial Artery Approach Versus Traditional for Coronary Procedures

Rohan M. Prasad et al.

Summary: Comparing distal radial artery access (DRA) with traditional proximal radial artery access (TRA) in coronary procedures, it was found that DRA had a similar successful cannulation rate but significantly lower radial artery spasm rate. More patients in the DRA group required alternative arterial access, and although DRA showed insignificantly decreased rates of radial artery occlusion and early discharge, it had a significantly shorter time for hemostasis.

Reference diameter and characteristics of the distal radial artery based on ultrasonographic assessment

Jun-Won Lee et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the reference diameters of the distal radial artery (DRA) in Korean patients, and identify predictors of DRA diameter < 2.3 mm. The results showed that approximately 50% of Korean patients had a DRA diameter < 2.3 mm, and female sex, low BMI, and low BSA were significant predictors of DRA diameter < 2.3 mm.

Surgical Turned-Downed CHIP Cases-Can PCI Save the Day?

Alexandru Achim et al.

Summary: Current guidelines do not address decision-making for revascularization in high-risk cases where bypass surgery is not possible. Patients who are not eligible for surgery are often excluded from clinical trials, despite still experiencing symptoms. The lack of data on health outcomes following PCI procedures in these patients raises questions about whether the benefits outweigh the risks in this controversial subpopulation.

Switching From Proximal to Distal Radial Artery Access for Coronary Chronic Total Occlusion Recanalization

Alexandru Achim et al.

Summary: The study found that using distal radial access (DRA) for complex CTO interventions is safe, feasible, lowers radiation dose, and makes dual radial access more achievable. Patients in the DRA group had less smoking history, family history of cardiovascular disease, and dyslipidemia compared to the PRA group, and the complexity of CTOs was slightly higher in the DRA group.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the size of the distal radial artery (dRA) and found that the average diameter of the right dRA was 2.27 + 0.39 mm in males and 2.09 + 0.38 mm in females. Height, weight, and the presence of diabetes and hypertension were identified as important predictors of dRA diameter.

Summary: This case report presents a patient, a 29-year-old healthy male volleyball player, who developed acute upper limb ischemia (ULI) after being diagnosed with COVID-19. The repetitive stress on the hands of volleyball players may lead to vascular abnormalities, but acute ULI has not been reported before. The patient underwent various treatments without success before opting for percutaneous large-bore embolectomy.
