Intra-abdominal hypertension in cardiac surgery patients: a multicenter observational sub-study of the Accuryn registry

Ashish K. Khanna et al.

Summary: This study explored the occurrence and persistence of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) in cardiac surgery patients and utilized a novel automated bladder pressure measurement system to observe the intra-and postoperative course of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP). The study found that IAH is common and persistent during the first 48 hours after cardiac surgery, and improved and automated monitoring of IAP can increase the detection rate of IAH.

Urinary catheter monitoring of intra-abdominal pressure after major abdominal surgery, a cost-benefit analysis

John P. Ney et al.

Summary: Urinary catheter monitoring of intra-abdominal pressure for early detection and prevention can significantly reduce the incidence of intra-abdominal hypertension, acute kidney injury, and abdominal compartment syndrome, leading to fewer ICU days and overall cost savings. In one-way sensitivity analysis, the pre-test probability of IAH had the largest impact on cost savings.
