Near-infrared light-triggered mild-temperature photothermal effect of nanodiamond with functional groups

Summary: In this study, carboxylated and aminated nanodiamonds were synthesized as photothermal agents with stable properties and good biocompatibility for mild-temperature photothermal therapy. The nanodiamonds demonstrated efficient photothermal conversion and excellent antibacterial and cancer ablation effects under near-infrared light triggering.

Singlet Oxygen Generation from Polyaminoglycerol by Spin-Flip-Based Electron Transfer

Summary: Reactive oxygen species, particularly singlet oxygen generated through energy transfer, have been recognized for their strong oxidation ability in controlling oxidation reactions efficiently. However, traditional singlet oxygen generators often have issues of poor solubility, low stability, and low biocompatibility. In this study, a hyperbranched aliphatic polyaminoglycerol (hPAG) is introduced as a spin-flip-based electron transfer singlet oxygen generator. The coexistence of a lone pair electron on the nitrogen atom and a hydrogen-bonding donor between hPAG and O-2 enables the direct electron transfer and subsequent spin-flip process to generate singlet oxygen. The spin-flip-based electron transfer pathway is analyzed through various experimental and computational studies. The hPAG singlet oxygen generator is successfully applied in photodynamic therapy and as an antimicrobial reagent.
