Approaching the Nernst Detection Limit in an Electrolyte-Gated Metal Oxide Transistor

Seyeong Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, high-sensitivity proton detection was achieved by novel electrolyte-gated thin-film transistors, with a significant current switching factor and large electrostatic shift observed through manipulation of ionic strength in the gating solution. Impedance spectroscopy and transient measurements revealed the spatial compression of ionic charges at the electrical double layers as the sensitivity origin, with the response time dominated by ion-transport resistance.
