In Situ Monitoring of Dynamic Photocatalysis of Metal-Organic Frameworks by Three-Dimensional Shell-Isolated Nanoparticle-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

Jiayi Cheng et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with photocatalytic processes that produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) show promise as novel disinfectants. This study developed a platform called three-dimensional shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SHINERS) to study the dynamic photocatalytic processes of various MOFs. The results showed that ZIF-67 had the most robust photocatalytic efficiency, being 1.7 times stronger than ZIF-8 and 42.6 times stronger than UIO-66. ZIF-67 also demonstrated the best antibacterial ability, reaching up to 99% in the agar plate assay.

A nanozyme-based colorimetric sensor array as electronic tongue for thiols discrimination and disease identification

Xueying Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, a nanozyme-based colorimetric sensor array has been proposed as an electronic tongue for the discrimination and quantification of thiols. By integrating modified graphene quantum dots with transition metal ions, different catalytic activities in metal ion-graphene quantum dot ensembles were achieved. Linear discriminant analysis was used to accurately discriminate six thiol analytes. The sensor array was also able to identify thiol-associated diseases using a machine learning algorithm.

Dual-mode glucose nanosensor as an activatable theranostic platform for cancer cell recognition and cascades-enhanced synergetic therapy

Xin Hai et al.

Summary: This study developed an integrated dual-mode glucose nanosensor as an activable theranostic platform for cancer cell recognition and enhanced synergistic therapy of lymph cancer. The cascade catalytic reaction triggered by glucose led to the degradation and release of Ag+ in AgNPs@GQDs-GOx, resulting in a turn-off colorimetric and turn-on fluorescence nanosensor for cancer cell recognition. The glucose-responsive degradation of AgNPs@GQDs-GOx also facilitated the cascades-enhanced synergistic therapy of lymph cancer.

Distinct Gut Microbiota Signatures in Mice Treated with Commonly Used Food Preservatives

Ravinder Nagpal et al.

Summary: This study examined the effects of three widely used food-grade preservatives on gut microbiota diversity and composition in a mouse model. It revealed that different preservatives induce specific patterns of microbial diversity and affect the abundance of certain bacterial taxa. Improved understanding of how food-grade preservatives influence gut microbiota composition and diversity could facilitate prospective studies on diet-microbiome interactions in relation to intestinal and metabolic health.
