Higher Meat Intake Is Associated with Higher Inflammatory Markers, Mostly Due to Adiposity: Results from UK Biobank

Keren Papier et al.

Summary: The study found that high meat consumption, especially processed meat, was positively associated with inflammatory markers in British adults. However, the magnitudes of these associations were small and primarily driven by higher adiposity.

Meat Value Chain Losses in Iran

Vahid Ranaei et al.

Summary: Reducing food losses is crucial in tackling hunger, with improving the food chain, raising awareness about food losses, and implementing solutions to recover wasted meat being key steps. Efforts to reduce meat loss in abattoirs and utilizing by-products and mechanization can significantly decrease losses in the meat value chain.

Effects of Total Red Meat Intake on Glycemic Control and Inflammatory Biomarkers: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Lauren E. O'Connor et al.

Summary: The study found that total red meat consumption does not affect biomarkers related to glycemic control or inflammation in healthy adults, regardless of the amount consumed, contrary to previous hypotheses. Through the analysis of data and research methods, the results suggest that total red meat consumption is not significantly associated with diabetes.

Fish and Shellfish-Derived Anti-Inflammatory Protein Products: Properties and Mechanisms

David C. Kemp et al.

Summary: The interest in using food-derived compounds for therapeutic purposes is increasing, with a focus on finding treatments for systematic chronic inflammation (SCI) that do not have the side effects of current anti-inflammatory drugs. Bioactive peptides (BAPs) derived from seafood processing byproducts (SPB) show promise for treating SCI. Studies have shown that anti-inflammatory BAPs from SPB work by inhibiting specific pathways and have specific structural tendencies that contribute to their efficacy, such as low molecular weight, positive charge, hydrophobic amino acids, and radical scavenging amino acids.
