KIF2C: a novel link between Wnt/β-catenin and mTORC1 signaling in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma

Shi Wei et al.

Summary: This study showed that KIF2C is significantly upregulated in HCC and associated with poor prognosis. Functional assays revealed that KIF2C promotes HCC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis. Mechanistically, the study identified TBC1D7 as a binding partner of KIF2C, disrupting TSC complex formation and enhancing mTORC1 signaling.

Cell division cycle associated 8: A novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma

Xiao-Han Cui et al.

Summary: The study found that high expression of CDCA8 in HCC may lead to poor overall survival, and is strongly linked with stages and grades, as well as significantly correlated with poor overall survival and progression-free survival. Inhibition of CDCA8 was shown to slow cell proliferation and block the cell cycle, while also inhibiting tumor growth and reducing the expression levels of certain cell cycle regulators.Additionally, an interaction between CDCA8 and E2F1 was discovered.

CDCA8 as an independent predictor for a poor prognosis in liver cancer

Yu Shuai et al.

Summary: High CDCA8 expression is a potential molecular predictor of poor prognosis in liver cancer. The level of CDCA8 expression is associated with T stage, clinical stage, histologic grade, and histological type in liver cancer, and high CDCA8 expression is correlated with a poor prognosis in liver cancer patients.

Double-targeting CDCA8 and E2F1 inhibits the growth and migration of malignant glioma

Xiaoxiong Wang et al.

Summary: High levels of CDCA8 are significantly correlated with poor prognosis in high-grade glioma patients, as it promotes cell proliferation, migration, and inhibits apoptosis. The synergy between CDCA8 and E2F1 enhances tumor malignancy by facilitating proliferation and migration in glioma. This study provides potential therapeutic targets and prognostic biomarkers for malignant glioma treatment.

Silencing CDCA8 Suppresses Hepatocellular Carcinoma Growth and Stemness via Restoration of ATF3 Tumor Suppressor and Inactivation of AKT/β-Catenin Signaling

Taewon Jeon et al.

Summary: The overexpression of CDCA8 in HCC tissues leads to poorer survival outcomes, but its specific functions in HCC development have been unclear. In this study, silencing CDCA8 was shown to inhibit HCC cell growth and stemness by restoring ATF3 tumor suppressor and inactivating oncogenic AKT/beta-catenin signaling, providing a potential molecular strategy for HCC treatment and prevention of metastasis or recurrence.

Five metastasis-related mRNAs signature predicting the survival of patients with liver hepatocellular carcinoma

Chao Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to construct a metastasis-related mRNAs prognostic model for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) based on analysis of transcriptomic and clinical data. Six mRNAs associated with prognosis were identified, with a 5-gene prognostic signature significantly stratifying HCC patients into high- and low-risk groups. The model showed predictive value for HCC prognosis, with a significant independent prognostic factor identified. Additionally, a nomogram incorporating the 5-gene signature and clinical features was built for prognostic prediction, and functional enrichment analysis showed differences in pathways between high- and low-risk groups.

A novel prognostic signature based on four glycolysis-related genes predicts survival and clinical risk of hepatocellular carcinoma

Zhihong Chen et al.

Summary: The glycolysis pathway was upregulated in HCC and unfavorable for survival. A gene module closely related to glycolysis was identified through weighted gene co-expression network analysis, mainly enriched in cell proliferation. A prognostic signature was developed and showed considerable predictive effect when combined with TNM stage.

EGFR activation limits the response of liver cancer to lenvatinib

Haojie Jin et al.

Summary: Inhibition of EGFR is synthetically lethal with lenvatinib in liver cancer, and the combination of lenvatinib with the EGFR inhibitor gefitinib shows potent anti-proliferative effects both in vitro and in vivo. This combination therapy could be a promising strategy for HCC patients with high levels of EGFR, providing meaningful clinical responses.
