A comprehensive review on the antidiabetic activity of flavonoids targeting PTP1B and DPP-4: a structure-activity relationship analysis

Carina Proenca et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a growing global health problem caused by insulin secretion defects and/or insulin resistance. The role of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 in T2D has attracted scientific attention, with a focus on the potential of flavonoids as therapeutic agents. Studies have explored the inhibitory effects of flavonoids on PTP1B and DPP-4 activities, aiming to discover compounds with improved potential for treating T2D.

Anti-α-Glucosidase and Antiglycation Activities of α-Mangostin and New Xanthenone Derivatives: Enzymatic Kinetics and Mechanistic Insights through In Vitro Studies

Francine Medjiofack Djeujo et al.

Summary: This research aimed to evaluate the inhibitory activity of alpha-mangostin and synthetic compounds against glycation and oxidative processes, as well as the activity of alpha-glucosidase. The results showed that alpha-mangostin reduced the production of AGEs and inhibited alpha-glucosidase activity. Additionally, alpha-mangostin exhibited a reversible mixed-type antagonism and induced rearrangement of the secondary structure of alpha-glucosidase, providing protective effects against glycation and oxidation damage.
