Prediction of landslide displacement with dynamic features using intelligent approaches

Yonggang Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a dynamic way to predict landslide displacement based on the GRU neural network and CEEMDAN, and demonstrates its accuracy improvement over SVM in periodic displacement prediction through a case study. The dynamic predictive method significantly enhances accuracy by capturing the dynamic features of the inputs to optimize landslide displacement prediction.

Experimental and numerical studies on progressive debonding of grouted rock bolts

Hao Shi et al.

Summary: Understanding the progressive debonding mechanism of bolts is crucial for underground safety. This paper conducted laboratory experiments and numerical simulations of pull-out tests. The relationship between the pull-out strength of the bolt and the uniaxial compressive strength of the cement mortar material was established, and the locations of cracks were identified using the acoustic emission technique. The results revealed that the axial displacement of the cement mortar material at the peak load was approximately 5 mm, and the peak load of the bolt increased with the strength of the confining medium.

Frictional behavior of planar and rough granite fractures subjected to normal load oscillations of different amplitudes

Wengang Dang et al.

Summary: In this study, direct shear tests were conducted on saw-cut and natural granite fractures using a dynamic shear box. It was found that shear forces and normal displacements exhibited periodic changes and time shifts with oscillated normal loads. Small/large normal load oscillation amplitudes enhanced/reduced the peak shear strength, with a critical point.

The stabilizing effect of high pore-fluid pressure along subduction megathrust faults: Evidence from friction experiments on accretionary sediments from the Nankai Trough

John D. Bedford et al.

Summary: Pore-fluid pressure plays a crucial role in controlling fault mechanics by lowering the effective normal stress and influencing fault slip behavior. Experiments on accretionary sediments from the Nankai Trough subduction zone show that increased pore-fluid pressure can enhance frictional stability, which has implications for promoting slow slip or aseismic creep in subduction zones. These findings suggest that pore-fluid pressure may have a stabilizing effect on fault behavior and seismic activity in subduction zones.

Frictional behavior of granular materials exposed to dynamic normal load

Wengang Dang et al.

Summary: The study found that the shear strength and normal displacement of granular materials under dynamic normal load vary with changes in the normal load, with the peak shear stress decreasing with increasing normal load frequency and shear velocity. Additionally, dynamic normal load can both enhance and reduce the shear strength and normal displacement of granular materials.

A process-based approach to understanding and managing triggered seismicity

Bradford H. Hager et al.

Summary: The article discusses a multidisciplinary approach to managing triggered seismicity using detailed subsurface information to calibrate geomechanical and earthquake source physics models. By applying this method in the seismically active Val d'Agri oil field, successful management of triggered seismicity was demonstrated. Applying this approach elsewhere could help in managing and mitigating seismic activity.
