Myocardial fibrosis by T1 mapping magnetic resonance imaging predicts incident cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis

Mateus D. Marques et al.

Summary: ECV is an independent prognostic marker for incident heart failure, atherosclerotic cardiovascular events, and all-cause mortality, and it has better predictive ability in a large multi-ethnic population compared to regional myocardial abnormalities visualized by LGE imaging.

Association Between Serum Galectin-3 Levels and Coronary Stenosis Severity in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease

Mingxing Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the relationship between serum galectin-3 (Gal-3) levels and the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). The results showed that serum Gal-3 levels were significantly higher in CAD patients compared to non-CAD patients, and they were also higher in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) compared to stable CAD patients. Gal-3 levels were found to be an independent predictor of ACS and high SYNTAX scores (SSs), and they were associated with an increased risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) in ACS patients.

Oriol Rodriguez-Leor et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the clinical characteristics, reperfusion times, intervention characteristics, and 30-day mortality of 5401 patients treated in 17 STEMI networks in Spain from April to June 2019. The majority of patients underwent primary angioplasty treatment, with relatively low 30-day mortality rates.

T1 values and extracellular volume fraction in asymptomatic subjects: variations in left ventricular segments and correlation with cardiovascular risk factors

Moon Young Kim et al.

Summary: This study evaluated variations in preT1 and postT1 values and ECV in different LV segments and found correlations with cardiovascular risk factors. The HTN-DM group had significantly higher ECV compared to the control and HTN groups.

Visceral adiposity indicators and cardiovascular risk in hemodialytic patients

Dejane de Almeida Melo et al.

Summary: This study conducted on 265 CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis in two cities in Brazil found that the prevalence rates of hypertriglyceridemia-waist phenotype and visceral adiposity index were 29.82% and 58.49% respectively. Visceral adiposity index was associated with female gender and high body fat percentage, while hypertriglyceridemia-waist phenotype was associated with female gender, alcohol consumption, obesity, high body fat percentage, and reduced HDL cholesterol.

Secretory products from epicardial adipose tissue induce adverse myocardial remodeling after myocardial infarction by promoting reactive oxygen species accumulation

Shuang Hao et al.

Summary: This study identified a new pathological mechanism involving an EAT/miRNA axis that explains the adverse myocardial remodeling occurring after myocardial infarction. The findings showed that miR-134-5p knockdown limited adverse myocardial remodeling in a rat model of MI by alleviating cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and fibrosis.
