MiR-196a promotes the proliferation and migration of esophageal cancer via the UHRF2/TET2 axis

Chang-mei Hu et al.

Summary: The study found that miR-196a expression was increased in esophageal cancer tissues and cells, while UHRF2 and TET2 expression was decreased. Functional experiments showed that silencing miR-196a or overexpressing UHRF2 could inhibit EC cell proliferation and migration, with miR-196a negatively regulating TET2 expression by targeting UHRF2 directly. The study suggested that miR-196a may be closely related to the progression of EC by regulating the UHRF2/TET2 axis.

High mobility group AT-hook 1 (HMGA1) is an important positive regulator of hepatitis B virus (HBV) that is reciprocally upregulated by HBV X protein

Zhongliang Shen et al.

Summary: Chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) is associated with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. HMGA1 protein acts as a positive regulator of HBV transcription by binding to the ATTGG site within EII/Cp and recruiting transcription factors FOXO3 alpha and PGC1 alpha. HBV upregulates the expression of endogenous HMGA1 via HBx. Elevated levels of HMGA1 protein and serum HBV markers are observed in chronic hepatitis B patients. Targeting HMGA1 through RNA interference facilitates HBV clearance.

RNA helicase A as co-factor for DNA viruses during replication

Fan Guo et al.

Summary: RNA helicase A (RHA) is a widely expressed enzyme involved in various biological processes, including RNA and DNA virus replication. RHA interacts with certain DNA viruses during replication, regulating gene expression and antiviral responses. Further research is needed to understand the diverse molecular mechanisms underlying RHA's interactions with DNA viruses.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

LINC00460/DHX9/IGF2BP2 complex promotes colorectal cancer proliferation and metastasis by mediating HMGA1 mRNA stability depending on m6A modification

Pingfu Hou et al.

Summary: The study found that LINC00460 is upregulated in CRC and high expression is associated with poor survival rates. LINC00460 interacts with IGF2BP2 and DHX9 to enhance the stability of HMGA1 mRNA through m6A modification, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in CRC.

HBx promotes hepatocarcinogenesis by enhancing phosphorylation and blocking ubiquitinylation of UHRF2

Fengjuan Cheng et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the expression of UHRF2 in HBV-positive HCC tissues was correlated with the overall and recurrence-free survival of patients. UHRF2 induced invasion, migration, and proliferation in HBV-positive HCC cell lines through the HBx-ETS1-CDK2 pathway.

Dynamically probing ATP-dependent RNA helicase A-assisted RNA structure conversion using single molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer

Chengcheng Wu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that RHA can reverse the thermodynamic equilibrium of RNA in vitro, converting dsRNA YZ to dsRNA XY through a tripartite intermediate state. The rate and distribution of the RNA structure conversion are affected by ATP concentrations. This research provides real-time insight into ATP-dependent RHA-assisted RNA structure conversion at the single molecule level.

E3 ubiquitin ligase TRIM21 restricts hepatitis B virus replication by targeting HBx for proteasomal degradation

Yahui Song et al.

Summary: TRIM21 restricts HBV replication by targeting the HBx-Smc5/6 pathway, leading to impaired HBx-mediated degradation of Smc6 and suppression of HBV replication. Over-expression or knocking-out of TRIM21 shows an in vivo therapeutic effect in HBV-infected models.
