18F-FDG /18F-Choline Dual-Tracer PET Behavior and Tumor Differentiation in HepatoCellular Carcinoma. A Systematic Review

Jerome Ghidaglia et al.

Summary: Dual 18F-FDG/18F-Choline PET can assess the degree of differentiation in HCC tumors. However, there is a high overlap in the PET behavior of 18F-FDG/18F-Choline between well-differentiated and less-differentiated HCC, making it challenging to characterize tumors based on this PET combination alone. Further studies are needed to improve our understanding of radiotracer behavior in the field of HCC and enhance the usefulness of PET imaging in the clinical decision process.

PSMA Radioligand Uptake as a Biomarker of Neoangiogenesis in Solid Tumours: Diagnostic or Theragnostic Factor?

Alessio Rizzo et al.

Summary: Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) plays an important role in the management of oncological patients, and prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) radioligands are effective targets for molecular imaging and radioligand therapy (RLT). PSMA radioligand PET shows promising performance in non-prostate solid tumors, but further research is needed to explore its potential role in oncological patients management.

Summary: PSMA expression is significantly higher in hepatocellular carcinoma compared to cholangiocarcinoma and hepatic adenoma, with a higher tumor grade associated with PSMA expression. PSMA expression correlates positively with FGF14 mRNA expression and negatively with MAD1L1 mRNA expression.

Summary: LI-RADS is a comprehensive system for standardization in interpreting and reporting observations in patients at risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma, with 8 diagnostic categories reflecting the probability of benignity, malignancy in general, or HCC specifically. This article reviews the diagnostic categories of CT/MRI LI-RADS v2018, focusing on key imaging features, diagnostic criteria, and management implications.

Jolanta Kunikowska et al.

Summary: The study found that [Ga-68]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT imaging can effectively detect PSMA expression in patients with HCC and guide treatment strategies. PET/CT results changed the treatment strategy in 33% of the patients, showing visible heterogeneity of PSMA staining in HCC.

68Ga-PSMA PET/CT Versus 18F-FDG PET/CT for Imaging of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Cihan Gundogan et al.

Summary: This study compared metabolic parameters obtained from F-18-FDG and Ga-68-PSMA PET/CT and found that Ga-68-PSMA PET/CT is superior in staging hepatocellular carcinoma, with higher uptake rates and more lesions detected. High Ga-68-PSMA uptake shows promise for PSMA-targeted radionuclide treatments.

Hepatocellular carcinoma

Josep M. Llovet et al.

Summary: Liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), poses a significant global health challenge with rising incidence projected to exceed 1 million cases by 2025. Infection by hepatitis B and C viruses remains a major risk factor for HCC, while non-alcoholic steatohepatitis is emerging as a more common risk factor in Western countries. Advances in systemic therapies for HCC, including immunotherapies and targeted therapies, are expected to revolutionize the management of this disease.

11C-acetate positron emission tomography is more precise than 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in evaluating tumor burden and predicting disease risk of multiple myeloma

Summary: The study demonstrated that AC-PET outperformed FDG-PET in tumor burden evaluation and disease progression prediction in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. AC-PET showed significant correlations with certain tumor burden biomarkers and predicted a higher risk of disease progression and shorter progression-free survival in NDMM patients.

Summary: The radioligand therapy with Lu-177-PSMA-617 prolonged both imaging-based progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with PSMA-positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer when added to standard care. Adverse events were more common with Lu-177-PSMA-617 but did not significantly impact quality of life.
