Effect of Mechanical Mincing on Minimally Manipulated Articular Cartilage for Surgical Transplantation

Aghogho Evuarherhe et al.

Summary: This study compared the histological properties of mechanically minced articular cartilage with minimally manipulated cartilage. The results showed that mechanically minced articular cartilage remained viable after 42 days of culture in vitro and was comparable with cartilage explants in terms of cellular migration, outgrowth, and extracellular matrix synthesis.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Clinical Evidence on the Use of Autologous Matrix-Induced Chondrogenesis in the Knee

Matthias R. Steinwachs et al.

Summary: The systematic review and meta-analysis of Autologous Matrix-Induced Chondrogenesis (AMIC(R)) outcomes for grade III/IV chondral and osteochondral lesions of the knee treated with Chondro-Gide(R) demonstrated a significant improvement in clinical status and functional scoring in patients. The evidence supports the recommendation of AMIC procedure for knee chondral and osteochondral defects in a real-life treatment setting.

The Benefit of Minced Cartilage Over Isolated Chondrocytes in Atelocollagen Gel on Chondrocyte Proliferation and Migration

Yusuke Tsuyuguchi et al.

Summary: In an in vitro study comparing minced cartilage embedded in a 3-dimensional culture scaffold with isolated chondrocytes in atelocollagen, minced cartilage demonstrated superior cell migration, proliferation, and matrix production capabilities.

Particulated Cartilage for Chondral and Osteochondral Repair: A Review

Bjorn Borsoe Christensen et al.

Summary: Particulated cartilage has been shown to be an effective treatment for cartilage injuries, especially in juvenile cartilage. Clinical studies suggest that allogeneic and autologous particulated cartilage implantation is a low-cost and effective treatment alternative, but more large randomized controlled studies are needed for validation.

Stable clinical long term results after AMIC in the aligned knee

Nadine Kaiser et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of AMIC treatment for full-thickness chondral and osteochondral defects. The results showed durable clinical improvement in most patients after 9 years, especially when lower limb malalignment and patellar tracking were corrected. This data suggests young adult patients may benefit from AMIC as an alternative to early arthroplasty.

Summary: Various stimuli and signaling pathways can modulate the chondrocyte phenotype, impacting their function. Manipulating the cytoskeleton and signaling processes offers a potential avenue for controlling and repairing chondrocytes.

Maturation process of regenerated tissues after single-stage simultaneous autologous particulated cartilage implantation and open wedge high tibial osteotomy for articular cartilage defects with medial osteoarthritis of bilateral knees: a case report

Yasushi Oshima et al.

Summary: This case study demonstrated successful cartilage regeneration using arthroscopic particulated cartilage implantation in combination with OWHTO in a 60-year-old patient with bilateral knee osteoarthritis. The T2 mapping magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the maturation process of the regenerated cartilage tissues over a 3-year follow-up period. Additionally, the patient showed improved functional outcomes without any correction loss.
