Tailored ZnO-ZnS heterostructure enables a rational balancing of strong adsorption and high catalytic activity of polysulfides for Li-S batteries

Wanyu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study achieves significantly enhanced conversion of polysulfides by balancing strong adsorption and high catalytic activity on the ZnO-ZnS/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) heterostructure. The heterostructure enables unrestricted adsorption-diffusion-conversion of polysulfides by integrating the advantages of ZnO, ZnS, and rGO. As a functional coating on separators, the heterostructures can promote redox kinetics and inhibit polysulfide shuttling.

Elaborate interface design of CoS2/Fe7S8/NG heterojunctions modified on a polypropylene separator for efficient lithium-sulfur batteries

Peng Chen et al.

Summary: Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are a promising energy storage system, but their development is hindered by issues such as low electronic conductivity and sluggish reaction kinetics. In this study, a heterostructure consisting of CoS2, Fe7S8, and nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (CoS2/Fe7S8/NG) was prepared. The CoS2/Fe7S8/NG showed strong absorption and catalytic ability towards lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), and when used as a modification layer for the polypropylene (PP) separator in Li-S batteries, it exhibited high discharge capacity and cycling stability.
