The Deep Eutectic Solvent Precipitation Synthesis of Metastable Zn4V2O9

Sangki Hong et al.

Summary: A ternary metal oxide was synthesized using a precipitation method involving a deep eutectic solvent. The method demonstrated high tunability in the size/morphology of the precipitated two-dimensional nano-sheets and provided insight into the structure-property relationship of the zinc-rich vanadate.

Microwave-Assisted Solution Synthesis of Metastable Intergrowth of AgInS2 Polymorphs

Adedoyin N. Adeyemi et al.

Summary: The intergrowth of stable and metastable AgInS2 polymorphs was successfully synthesized using a microwave-assisted synthesis method. Increasing the metal precursor concentration improved the crystallinity and particle size of the samples. The solution synthesis allowed for the intergrowth of thermodynamically stable and high-temperature metastable polymorphs in AgInS2, providing better control over its structural properties.

Effects of thiourea dosage on the structural, optical and electrical properties of one-step solution processed Cu3BiS3 film for photovoltaics

Yi Fang et al.

Summary: Cu3BiS3 prepared by a one-step solution method with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and thiourea (TU) showed band gap ranging from 1.40 to 1.68 eV and carrier concentration around 10^(16) cm^(-3). Increasing TU concentration in precursor solution enhanced grain size and carrier mobility, but excessive TU supply deteriorated film properties. The best PCE of 0.291% was achieved with TU concentration of 3.0 M in the precursor solution.

The Power of Ionic Liquids: Crystal Facet Engineering of SrTiO3 Nanoparticles for Tailored Photocatalytic Applications

Tarek Alammar et al.

Summary: The sonochemical synthesis of nano-sized SrTiO3 in ionic liquids at close to room temperature allows for tuning of particle size, morphology, and aggregation. Different ionic liquids influence the formation, structure, and photocatalytic performance of the nanoparticles, with varying activities observed for hydrogen evolution and organic material degradation. The crystal surfaces of the nano-sized SrTiO3 materials prepared in different ionic liquids play a key role in determining the photocatalytic activity, as supported by first-principles density functional theory calculations.

Local Structural Disorder in Metavanadates MV2O6 (M = Zn and Cu) Synthesized by the Deep Eutectic Solvent Route: Photoactive Oxides with Oxygen Vacancies

Sangki Hong et al.

Summary: Metavanadates MV2O6-delta (M = Zn and Cu) were synthesized using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a reaction medium, resulting in the formation of oxygen-deficient materials with reduced band gaps and enhanced sub-band gap photon absorption. The presence of oxygen vacancies introduced by the DES route significantly altered the structural and optical properties of the oxides. Photoelectrochemical measurements confirmed the potential use of these materials as photoanodes for methanol oxidation, with n-type behavior and electron majority charge carriers identified through surface photovoltage spectroscopy.
