Agroecological management with intra- and interspecific diversification as an alternative to conventional soil nutrient management in family maize farming

Summary: Traditional polycultures pose a threat to rural food security, but agroecological alternatives have the potential to improve soil fertility and family nutrition. This study found that agroecological management practices, including interspecific diversification, resulted in better soil conditions, higher nutrient content, and improved mycorrhizal colonization compared to conventional agricultural management. Diversified treatments also increased nitrogen content in the soil and provided a variety of edible plants.
