Chitosan functionalized thiophene-2-thiosemicarbazones, and their copper(II) complexes: synthesis, characterization, and anticancer activity

Hari Sharan Adhikari et al.

Summary: Chitosan, a polyfunctional biomaterial, can be chemically modified to produce derivatives with remarkable anticancer activity. This study successfully functionalized low and high molecular weight chitosan, established their copper(II) complexes, and tested their anticancer activity using MTT assay, finding that the complexes exhibited higher activity than the corresponding ligands.

Imine Azaenolates: Synthesis, Reactivity, and Outlook

Sahra St John-Campbell et al.

Summary: Azaenolates are the nitrogen variant of enolates, and their reactivity can be controlled by modifying the substituent on the nitrogen atom as well as the metal counterion. Various azaenolates of different metals have been found to react with a diverse set of electrophilic partners, including challenging ones. This review provides a detailed overview of the current research progress in the chemistry of imine-derived azaenolates, with a particular focus on comparing the reactivity exhibited with different metal counterions.

Synthesis (Z) vs (E) Selectivity, Antifungal Activity against Fusarium oxysporum, and Structure-Based Virtual Screening of Novel Schiff Bases Derived from L-Tryptophan

Paola Borrego-Munoz et al.

Summary: In this manuscript, the synthesis and NMR study of new enamine Schiffbases derived from L-tryptophan were presented. The Z-form of the enamine was found to be the main tautomeric form. The results of in vitro biological activity tests and molecular docking suggested that certain Schiff bases have potential antifungal properties against Fusarium oxysporum. This study paves the way for designing new antifungal compounds based on L-tryptophan-derived Schiff bases.

Manganese Schiff Base Complexes, Crystallographic Studies, Anticancer Activities, and Molecular Docking

Ayodele Temidayo Odularu

Summary: The choice of ligands is crucial for the synthesis of metal complexes. This study focuses on the use of Schiff base ligands to address the challenges of poor bioavailability and neurodegenerative toxicity of manganese ion. The results show that the manganese Schiff base coordination compounds exhibit higher activity against cancer cells compared to the corresponding Schiff bases, indicating their potential as therapeutic agents. Crystallographic and molecular docking studies provide insights into the structure and mode of interaction between the ligands and manganese ions, further supporting the biological efficacy of these compounds.
