Brownian reservoir computing realized using geometrically confined skyrmion dynamics

Klaus Raab et al.

Summary: This study proposes and experimentally demonstrates a skyrmion-based spatially multiplexed reservoir computing method, utilizing the thermal activated diffusive motion of skyrmions to perform Boolean Logic operations. The proposed method shows low energy consumption and scalability potential. This research is of significance for implementing computational principles beyond the von-Neumann computing model.

Skyrmion pinning energetics in thin film systems

Raphael Gruber et al.

Summary: The study shows that skyrmions are pinned at their boundaries rather than at their cores. The pinning effects are strongly influenced by a complex pinning energy landscape, which goes beyond the conventional effective rigid quasi-particle description. This results in complex skyrmion shape distortions and allows for dynamic switching of pinning sites and flexible tuning of the pinning.

Exponential Temperature Effects on Skyrmion-Skyrmion Interaction

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamic behaviors of magnetic skyrmions and their interaction with temperature are investigated. The researchers demonstrate that the interaction potential between skyrmions decreases exponentially with temperature, leading to a critical temperature behavior of the skyrmion phase. Additionally, an equation is proposed to describe the skyrmion interaction at finite temperatures.

A theory of skyrmion crystal formation

Xu-Chong Hu et al.

Summary: A generic theory about the formation and thermodynamic behaviors of skyrmion crystal in chiral magnetic thin films is presented in this article. The existence of multiple metastable states in chiral magnetic films explains the path dependence of the various metastable states. The findings open up new possibilities for the manipulation and application of skyrmion crystals.

Circuits and excitations to enable Brownian token-based computing with skyrmions

Maarten A. Brems et al.

Summary: This paper explores the concept of Brownian computing using discrete signal carriers for computations and addresses challenges in circuit fabrication and slow computation speed. Solutions proposed include a crossing-free layout for simplified experimental implementations and overlaying artificial diffusion to increase computation speed by orders of magnitude. These advancements could greatly enhance the application scenarios of token-based computing, particularly for low power devices like autonomous sensors. Commensurability between Element Symmetry and the Number of Skyrmions Governing Skyrmion Diffusion in Confined Geometries

Chengkun Song et al.

Summary: Magnetic skyrmions are topological magnetic structures with quasi-particle properties that exhibit enhanced stability against thermal noise. Recent studies have found thermal Brownian diffusion of skyrmions in continuous films, while in confined geometries, diffusion behavior is qualitatively different, governed by the interplay between total number of skyrmions and structure geometry. In particular, the influence of commensurability in triangular geometries has been identified, with different behavior observed depending on whether the number of skyrmions is commensurate or incommensurate with a symmetric filling of the element.

Anisotropic Skyrmion Diffusion Controlled by Magnetic-Field-Induced Symmetry Breaking

Nico Kerber et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that by applying a magnetic in-plane field, one can control the diffusion direction and strength of magnetic skyrmions, resulting in anisotropic diffusion. This is attributed to the elliptical deformation of the skyrmions caused by the application of the in-plane field.

Stripe skyrmions and skyrmion crystals

X. R. Wang et al.

Summary: Magnetic skyrmions are important topological solitons with different shapes in skyrmion crystals, ranging from stripy spin textures to circular skyrmions, showing varied properties. As the skyrmion number density increases, skyrmion shapes gradually change, eventually forming circular objects.
