Growth of tungsten bronze phase out of niobate perovskite phase for opto-ferroelectric applications

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: Engineering the optical bandgaps of classic ferroelectrics is crucial for developing next-generation optoelectric and opto-ferroelectric devices. This paper presents a post-processing method, atmospheric annealing, to grow the necessary tungsten bronze phase and achieve bandgap engineering. The distinctive electrical properties and tunability of photoconductivity make this method compatible with the fabrication of opto-ferroelectric devices.

Photocontrolled Strain in Polycrystalline Ferroelectrics via Domain Engineering Strategy

Fernando Rubio-Marcos et al.

Summary: The study reports a large photostrain response in polycrystalline BaTiO3, comparable to their electrostrain values, achieved through domain engineering via grain size control. It reveals that charged domain walls appear to be the functional interfaces for light-driven domain switching. These findings provide a new approach for designing high-performance photoactuators based on ferroelectric ceramics.

Vacancy-Induced Niobate Perovskite-Tungsten Bronze Composite for Synergetic Tuning of Ferroelectricity and Band Gaps

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: This study introduces an alternative method to simultaneously tune the band gap and ferroelectricity by intentionally introducing A-site vacancies to induce self-assembly of niobate perovskite and niobate tungsten bronze phases, forming a composite. The interface between the two phases, acting like a heterojunction, is responsible for the resulting narrow band gap and strong ferroelectricity.

Optomechanical Mapping of Ferroelectric Domains and the Piezo-Photovoltaic Effect in Ba- and Ni-Doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3

Gaurav Vats et al.

Summary: The piezo-photovoltaic effect enhances the photovoltaic performance of ferroelectrics under mechanical loads, and can induce additional polarization via the flexoelectric effect. The applied mechanical force results in amplified piezoresponse, while the material retains higher piezoresponse after removing the load. Mechanical stress from AFM tip can strongly influence property changes in the material under light illumination.
