Carbon Monoxide Protects Neural Stem Cells Against Iron Overload by Modulating the Crosstalk Between Nrf2 and NF-kappa B Signaling

Xie Zhengxing et al.

Summary: Research suggests that carbon monoxide (CO) has a pro-survival effect on neural stem cells (NSCs), which is mediated by the inhibition of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and subsequent inhibition of NF-kappa B through nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). CO preconditioning improves the efficacy of NSCs transplantation after hemorrhagic stroke.

Antioxidative and Conductive Nanoparticles-Embedded Cell Niche for Neural Differentiation and Spinal Cord Injury Repair

Chengheng Wu et al.

Summary: This study developed difunctional polypyrrole nanoparticles incorporated into bioactive collagen/hyaluronan hydrogel to construct an antioxidative and conductive microenvironment for nerve regeneration. The embedded PPy protected BMSCs from oxidative damage and promoted neuronal differentiation with the synergy between conductivity and electrical stimulation, associated with PI3K/Akt and MAPK pathway. In SCI rats, the difunctional hydrogel laden with BMSCs restored bioelectric signal transmission, inhibited secondary damage, and facilitated neurogenesis, resulting in prominent nerve regeneration and functional recovery.

The Pharmacological Action of Kaempferol in Central Nervous System Diseases: A Review

Jessica Silva dos Santos et al.

Summary: Kaempferol, a flavonoid antioxidant found in fruits and vegetables, has shown neuroprotective effects in the central nervous system through modulation of proinflammatory signaling pathways. The differences in biological benefits and pharmacokinetic behaviors between KPF aglycone and its glycosides are notable. Future studies are needed to clarify the mechanisms of Kaempferol's action in CNS diseases and the impact of glycosylation on its bioactivity.

Immunomodulatory Layered Double Hydroxide Nanoparticles Enable Neurogenesis by Targeting Transforming Growth Factor-β Receptor 2

Rongrong Zhu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of Mg/Al layered double hydroxide (Mg/Al-LDH) nanoparticles on neural regeneration and immunoregulation in spinal cord injury (SCI) recovery. LDH demonstrated significant capabilities in promoting neural stem cell migration and differentiation, activating L-Ca2+ channels, and generating inducible action potentials, while inhibiting inflammatory responses and accelerating neural regeneration through TGFBR2.

Jetan H. Badhiwala et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of timing of surgical decompression for acute spinal cord injury on neurological outcomes. The results showed that decompressive surgery within 24 hours of injury leads to improved sensorimotor recovery, with a crucial time window for optimal neurological recovery within the first 24-36 hours post-injury.

Mechanism of mesenchymal stem cells in spinal cord injury repair through macrophage polarization

Nan An et al.

Summary: Treatment and rehabilitation of spinal cord injury (SCI) is a major challenge in clinical medicine due to complex pathophysiological changes after injury. Inflammatory reactions post-SCI are related to immune cells' functions at different times and sites. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation has become a promising method for eliminating nerve injury caused by SCI and influencing macrophage polarization to induce specific immune microenvironments.
