Metal-free photosensitized oxyimination of unactivated alkenes with bifunctional oxime carbonates

Tuhin Patra et al.

Summary: A metal-free photosensitization protocol has been developed for the installation of both amine and alcohol functionalities into alkene feedstocks in a single step, demonstrating better regioselectivity compared to traditional methods. The use of orthogonal protection for amine and alcohol functionalities allows for the direct synthetic diversification of one functional handle without influencing the other. This process, utilizing readily available starting materials, offers a promising approach for various synthetic endeavors due to its convergent synthesis and mild reaction conditions.

Diastereodivergent Intermolecular 1,2-Diamination of Unactivated Alkenes Enabled by Iodine Catalysis

Satoshi Minakata et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the stereospecific, substrate-controlled intermolecular anti- and syn-1,2-diaminations of unactivated alkenes using an iodine catalyst. The combined use of the two methods allows access to all diastereomeric forms of 1,2-diamines, even in the presence of E- and Z-alkenes, with the resulting products easily convertible into free vicinal diamines.

Diamine Synthesis via the Nitrogen-Directed Azidation of σ- and π-C-C Bonds

Ming-Ming Wang et al.

Summary: A new strategy for the synthesis of 1,2, 1,3, and 1,4 amido azides as orthogonally protected diamines has been developed based on nitrogen-directed diazidation of alkenes, cyclopropanes, and cyclobutanes. Commercially available copper thiophene-2-carboxylate (CuTc) catalyst facilitated the diazidation of both pi and sigma C-C bonds, followed by selective substitution to form 1,2-, 1,3-, and 1,4-diamines with orthogonally protected amino groups.

Dirhodium(ii)-catalyzed diamination reaction via a free radical pathway

Zhiying Fan et al.

Summary: Unlike the conventional C-N bond formation with dirhodium(ii)-nitrenoids, dirhodium(ii)-catalyzed 1,2- and 1,3-diamination reactions proceed through a free radical mechanism. A mechanistic study revealed a radical-polar crossover process during the reactions. UV-visible spectroscopy enables accurate observation of catalyst valence state changes and rapid determination of reaction end time based on solution color changes.

Thioxanthone: a powerful photocatalyst for organic reactions

Nikolaos F. Nikitas et al.

Summary: Photoorganocatalysis is recognized as an important aspect of photochemistry and catalysis in organic chemistry, with aromatic ketones playing a significant role. Thioxanthone (TX) stands out for its unique properties in photochemistry, with high triplet energy and long triplet lifetime, making it effective in merger reactions with metal complexes. This review discusses the photophysical properties of TX and its applications in various photochemical reactions, particularly in polymerization and organic transformations.
