Traveling wave vibration of graphene platelet reinforced porous joined conical-cylindrical shells in a spinning motion

Qingdong Chai et al.

Summary: This study investigates the traveling wave vibration characteristics of spinning graphene platelets reinforced metal foam joined conical-cylindrical shells for the first time. The effects of graphene platelets allocation on vibration characteristics are explored, and it is found that allocating more graphene platelets in large-size pore regions is not suitable for increasing traveling wave frequencies. Furthermore, allocating graphene platelets in the conical shell segment can significantly improve traveling wave frequencies compared to the cylindrical shell segment or the whole joined conical-cylindrical shells.

Vibration characteristics of thin plate system joined by hinges in double directions

Wu Ce Xing et al.

Summary: This study investigates the free vibration characteristics of a double-direction solar array structure connected with flexible hinges using Kirchhoff plate theory and Chebyshev polynomials, and calculates the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure. The research explores the effect of structural parameters on the frequency and mode shape, and compares the results with ANSYS to validate the method.

Thermal stability and flammability characteristics of phenolic syntactic foam core sandwich composites

S. J. Amith Kumar et al.

Summary: The study focuses on enhancing the thermal stability and fire resistance of polymeric foam core sandwich composites to reduce damages caused by temperature and fire. Experimental results show that phenolic syntactic foam core has better thermal stability than glass/epoxy face skins up to 450 degrees Celsius, aiding in flame isolation.

Vibration attenuation and bandgap characteristics in plates with periodic cavities

Sachchidanand Das et al.

Summary: This study investigates the vibration attenuation characteristics of plates with different shapes of periodic cavities through experiments and simulations. The observed frequency bandgaps in experiments were found to match the numerical simulation results, indicating that desired vibration attenuation bandgaps can be achieved by selecting suitable shapes and sizes of periodic cavities.

An efficient method for vibration and stability analysis of rectangular plates axially moving in fluid

Yanqing Wang et al.

Summary: An efficient method has been developed to investigate the vibration and stability of moving plates immersed in fluid using the Kirchhoff plate theory and finite element method. The study shows that the natural frequency of the submersed moving plates decreases with an increase in the axial speed, leading to a coupling phenomenon between the first- and second-order modes. Additionally, the natural frequency decreases with an increase in fluid density or immersion level, and significantly drops if the plate is located near a rigid wall.

Nonlinear forced vibration of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced metal foam cylindrical shells: internal resonances

Chao Ye et al.

Summary: The study focused on analyzing the nonlinear forced vibration of thin-walled metal foam cylindrical shells reinforced with functionally graded graphene platelets, particularly examining the 1:1:1:2 internal resonances. Different porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution significantly influenced the nonlinear behavior of the shells, with the inclusion of graphene platelets weakening the nonlinear coupling effect. The effects of porosity coefficient and GPL weight fraction on the nonlinear dynamical response were found to be strongly related to porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution.
