Structural analysis of soybean pods and seeds subjected to weathering deterioration in pre-harvest

Cristian Rafael Brzezinski et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to analyze the structural characteristics of soybean pods and seed coats and investigate the effect of pre-harvest weathering on seed quality. Results showed that rainfall before harvest reduced the quality of soybean seeds, but the response to weathering varied among cultivars. Pods with thicker exocarp, mesocarp, and endocarp as well as higher lignin content exhibited greater resistance to weathering and resulted in seeds with higher vigor and viability. The thickness of the testa hypodermis was also related to resistance to weathering and the production of high-quality seeds.

Metabolites of the phenylpropanoid pathway and physiological quality of soybean seeds in storage

Julia Abati et al.

Summary: The study found that the physiological quality of soybean seeds declines during storage, with a higher rate of decrease in non-controlled environments. Metabolites of the phenylpropanoid pathway, especially lignin, were found to affect seed storage potential, with cultivars high in lignin content showing greater storage potential, particularly in non-controlled environments.
