A multi-stage dynamical fusion network for multimodal emotion recognition

Sihan Chen et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in emotion recognition using physiological signals. However, current studies often overlook cross-modal interactions in multimodal emotion recognition. To address this issue, we proposed a multi-stage multimodal dynamical fusion network (MSMDFN) that explores the interactions among features extracted from multiple modalities. Our experiments on the DEAP dataset show that our method outperforms existing one-stage multimodal emotion recognition approaches.

Cortical Mechanisms of Multisensory Linear Self-motion Perception

Luxin Zhou et al.

Summary: Accurate self-motion perception is crucial for survival, and it involves multiple sensory cues such as optic flow and inertial motion. Recent studies challenge previous conventional thoughts about the cortical mechanisms underlying visuo-vestibular integration and propose that different temporal component signals may mediate different functions in multisensory self-motion perception.

Neural Correlates of Spatial Navigation in Primate Hippocampus

Dun Mao

Summary: The hippocampus is known to play a significant role in spatial navigation in rodents and bats. However, studies on the spatial behavioral correlates in the primate hippocampus, including humans, are limited. Recent research on freely-moving primates has shown differences in spatial representations compared to rodents. This review examines empirical studies on the neural correlates of spatial navigation in the primate hippocampus, including local field potentials and single units.

Neuro-Behavioral Dynamic Prediction of Interpersonal Cooperation and Aggression

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study utilized electroencephalography to identify neural markers in three decision-making stages, revealing that midfrontal theta oscillation positively predicted subsequent aggressive choices and beta oscillation positively predicted subsequent cooperative choices. These findings support the three-stage theory of decision-making and suggest the feasibility of predicting behavioral choices using neural oscillations.

Unveiling Dynamic System Strategies for Multisensory Processing: From Neuronal Fixed-Criterion Integration to Population Bayesian Inference

Jiawei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study combined physiological recordings and modeling to elucidate the neural circuit mechanisms in multisensory processing in the brain. The research found that neurons switch between sensory integration or separation modes based on the fixed-criterion causal strategy, and the Bayesian strategy achieved flexible causal inference in downstream neurons.

A brain-inspired compact cognitive mapping system

Taiping Zeng et al.

Summary: This paper presents a compact cognitive mapping approach inspired by neurobiological experiments, optimizing the process of describing segments of the explored environment through neighborhood fields to reduce map size and maintain overall environmental layout. Loop closure edges are clustered based on time intervals for batch global optimization to satisfy combined constraints of the whole cluster.

Bayesian models of human navigation behaviour in an augmented reality audiomaze

Yumi Shikauchi et al.

Summary: The study found that using map learning models led to more accurate estimation of step sizes and turning angles, with differences in the extent of advantage between egocentric and allocentric navigators. This suggests a Bayesian evidence of human map learning on navigation behavior and its implications for different types of navigators.

Hierarchical Neural Prediction of Interpersonal Trust

Yiwen Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that during the trust generation stage, higher frontocentral beta band activity related to cognitive inhibition was associated with trust choices at both item level and individual level. Additionally, frontocentral beta band oscillation after reciprocity feedback had a stronger predictive effect on trust choices compared to betrayal feedback and distrust choices.

Continual Learning Using Bayesian Neural Networks

Honglin Li et al.

Summary: Continual learning models face the challenge of catastrophic forgetting in dynamic environments. To address this issue, a method called continual Bayesian learning networks (CBLNs) is proposed, which optimizes resource allocation and weight selection by maintaining a mixture of Gaussian posterior distributions to solve the problem of forgetting previously learned tasks.
