Dynamic compressive behaviour of recycled tyre steel fibre reinforced concrete

Meng Chen et al.

Summary: This paper presents a systematic experimental study on the dynamic compressive behaviour of recycled tyre steel fibre (RTSF) reinforced concrete. Results show that with increasing RTSF content, the slump of concrete was reduced while its air content was increased. The compressive strength of concrete at various strain rates went up with the increase of RTSF content from 0 to 0.75% but reduced with the further increase of RTSF content from 0.75% to 1.25%. The optimal dosage of RTSF for concrete was found to be 0.75% for workability, compressive strength, and dynamic compressive performance.

Effects of fibres on ultra-lightweight high strength concrete: Dynamic behaviour and microstructures

Baifa Zhang et al.

Summary: The use of ultra-lightweight high strength concrete (ULHSC) with fibre incorporation for prefabricated structures is a promising construction method. This study focuses on the effects of fibres on the dynamic compressive response and failure mechanism of ULHSC. The results show that the addition of fibres increases the strain rate sensitivity and dynamic compressive strength of ULHSC.

Insight into dynamic compressive response of carbon nanotube/carbon fiber-reinforced concrete

Qiang Fu et al.

Summary: The addition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon fibers (CFs) can enhance the dynamic compressive strength of concrete. The combination of CNTs and CFs has a better effect on improving the strain-rate effect of the concrete. The addition of CNTs improves the porosity and enhances the dynamic compressive strength, while the addition of CFs increases the porosity but still enhances the strength.

Reinforcing effects of gypsum composite with basalt fiber and diatomite for improvement of high-temperature endurance

Xiaoqi Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that BF and diatomite as additives can significantly improve the performance of gypsum composites at high temperatures, enhancing bending and compressive strength. While the reinforcing effect of BF is observable, it diminishes at high temperatures, and diatomite helps slow down crack formation and propagation.

Time-domain numerical analysis of single pedestrian random walks on laminated glass slabs in pre- or post-breakage regime

Chiara Bedon

Summary: The mechanical performance assessment of load-bearing elements is crucial, especially for unconventional constructional materials like laminated glass (LG) solutions. This paper explores the sensitivity of human-structure interaction effects and performance indicators for LG slab modules subjected to different walking paths of pedestrians. The results show that time-domain nonlinear simulations can capture major effects of pedestrians and fractured glass layers in LG modules still provide partial post-breakage contribution to the resisting section.

Exploring the brittleness and fractal characteristics of basalt fiber reinforced concrete under impact load based on the principle of energy dissipation

Kaiqiang Geng et al.

Summary: This paper conducts dynamic tests on ordinary concrete and basalt fiber reinforced concrete (BFRC) to study the effect of basalt fiber on the performance of concrete. It establishes a brittleness index evaluation method based on the full stress-strain curve and provides a reference for the brittleness evaluation of concrete.

Flexural behavior of carbon fiber-reinforced concrete beams under impact loading

Zhuoran Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the flexural behavior of carbon fiber-reinforced concrete (CFRC) beams under impact loading, analyzing the effects of different fiber volume fractions and impact velocities on mechanical properties. It was found that CFRC beams with 0.35% fiber content absorbed the highest energy, and an equation was deduced to calculate the generalized inertial force based on linear distribution of inertial force along CFRC beams. The results also showed that the dynamic increase factor (DIF) increased with strain rate, and an empirical equation was proposed to describe the strain rate effect.

Acoustic emission characteristics and crack resistance of basalt fiber reinforced concrete under tensile load

Liyun Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that an appropriate amount of basalt fiber can increase the tensile strength of concrete, reduce the strength of acoustic emission parameters and cumulative events, and improve crack patterns. Additionally, the suitable amount of basalt fiber can also decrease horizontal strain and its standard deviation, further enhancing the crack resistance of concrete.

Dynamic triaxial compressive response and failure mechanism of basalt fibre-reinforced coral concrete

Qiang Fu et al.

Summary: The study shows that the dynamic triaxial compressive strength and dynamic triaxial elastic modulus of BFRCAC increase with an increase in strain rate and confining pressure. The confining pressure reduces the damage degree of BFRCAC and changes the failure mode, while the strain rate affects the critical strain and pull-out length of basalt fibre. The addition of BF improves the strain rate effect of CAC's dynamic mechanical properties and increases its shear failure characteristics.

Experimental study on mechanical properties and damage mechanism of basalt fiber reinforced concrete under uniaxial compression

Liyun Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of basalt fiber content on the uniaxial compressive mechanical properties and damage of concrete. Acoustic emission technology was used to collect AE characteristic parameters, and 3D-digital image correlation was used to track surface crack development in real time. Results showed that proper basalt fiber content can improve compressive strength and reduce AE characteristic parameters, which are closely related to the stress-strain curve of BFRC.
