Characteristics of features formed by gas hydrate and free gas in the continental slope and abyssal plain of the Middle Caspian Sea

H. Gerivani et al.

Summary: This study investigated features formed by gas hydrate and free gas in the continental slope and abyssal plain of the Caspian Sea. The analysis was based on high-resolution marine seismoacoustic profiles, revealing various features such as mud volcanoes, gas chimneys, pockmarks, gas pipes, sediment disturbances, craters, landslides, and diapirs. Comparisons were made between the geological and physical conditions of the continental slope and abyssal plain to better understand the impact of different environments on the formation of these features.

Investigations of dynamics of a single spark-induced bubble in saline water

Zhen Liu et al.

Summary: The behavior of single bubbles generated by spark discharge was investigated under different electric fields and water properties. Results showed that larger bubbles are generated with higher discharge energy, and hydraulic efficiency decreases with increasing charging voltage but increases with increasing charging capacitance. Water conductivity has little influence on bubble behavior, while higher water temperature results in larger bubbles with higher hydraulic efficiency. The experimental results agreed well with the Rayleigh-Plesset model, with hydraulic efficiency for spark-induced bubbles ranging from 3.5% to 7.5%.

Development of a coupled geophysical-geothermal scheme for quantification of hydrates in gas hydrate-bearing permafrost sediments

Mehrdad Vasheghani Farahani et al.

Summary: A coupled geophysical-geothermal scheme is developed for predicting hydrate saturation in gas hydrate-bearing permafrost sediments, incorporating geophysical and geothermal responses. The scheme shows promising results in quantifying the saturation of co-existing phases with acceptable accuracy.

Insights into the climate-driven evolution of gas hydrate-bearing permafrost sediments: implications for prediction of environmental impacts and security of energy in cold regions

Mehrdad Vasheghani Farahani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of gas hydrate-bearing permafrost sediments against environmental temperature change. Experimental results reveal the influence of complex pore-scale factors on elastic wave velocities and effective thermal conductivity (ETC). The research emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between ice and gas hydrates in frozen sediments for accurate quantification of natural gas hydrate as a sustainable energy resource.
