Isotropic porous structure design methods based on triply periodic minimal surfaces

Jiawei Feng et al.

Summary: This study proposes two strategies to design isotropic TPMS structures and investigates the relationship between TPMS parameters and elastic modulus or anisotropy properties through numerical homogenization theory and finite element analysis methods. By utilizing a Curvature-Wall thickness (CW) adjustment method, both elastic modulus and anisotropy properties can be controlled, and composite TPMS structures can be designed by combining TPMS units. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approaches.

Summary: The mechanical properties of hybrid cellular structures designed using implicit functions were investigated both experimentally and numerically. Two proposed samples comprised of a Gyroid and a Diamond unit cells hybridised linearly and radially were studied. The validated computational models will be used for evaluating crashworthiness performance of other designs for protective equipment applications.

Elastic response of anisotropic Gyroid cellular structures under compression: Parametric analysis

Xing Peng et al.

Summary: The research focused on controlling the anisotropy of Gyroid cellular structure (GCS) by changing its geometrical parameters, and discussed the factors affecting the anisotropic elastic response, including structure anisotropy, porosity, and loading direction. Combining the porosity and anisotropic models of GCS can offer a scaffold that matches closely the human bone mechanical environment.
