Assessment of variability among morphological and molecular characters in wild populations of mint [Mentha longifolia (L.) L.] germplasm

Anjina Devi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the agro-morphological traits and genetic differences in 19 populations of Mentha longifolia. The results showed a high degree of morphological and genetic variation among populations, with higher genetic diversity among populations than within populations. This is attributed to low gene flow and greater habitat variability.

Genetic diversity and population structure of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit genotypes using molecular and morphological attributes

K. Rajarajan et al.

Summary: The study characterized 23 accessions of Leucaena leucocephala using morphological and molecular markers, revealing a high degree of genetic variability and population structure. Analysis of quantitative traits, cluster analysis, and principal component analysis showed distinct genetic diversity and classifications among the accessions. Additionally, the presence of two gene pools was identified in the population structure study, with high variability within the population indicating vast genetic diversity in L. leucocephala.

Leaf phenotypic variation of endangered plant Tetracentron sinense Oliv. and influence of geographical and climatic factors

Li Yang et al.

Summary: Our study found that phenotypic variation in T. sinense primarily occurred among populations, with moderate levels of phenotypic differentiation among populations and low levels of phenotypic variation within populations. Leaf phenotypic variation was related to environmental factors such as average annual sunshine hours, average July temperature, and average annual rainfall, which changed along gradients of longitude, latitude, and altitude.

Galactogenic plant diversity, phenology and local in situ conservation practices in agro-ecological zones of Benin Republic

Lucien Imorou et al.

Summary: The study identified a total of 69 galactogenic plant species in the agro-ecological areas of Benin, with Fabaceae, Poaceae, and Euphorbiaceae being the predominant families. The most effective galactogenic species for milk production were identified as Afzelia africana, Euphorbia balsamifera, etc. Knowledge about galactogenic plants varied significantly across sociolinguistic groups, but not across agro-ecological zones and socio-professional profiles.

Carlos C. Ahoyo et al.

Summary: The study in Benin revealed that 94% of international diseases are treated with medicinal woody species, with 97 ailments in 16 categories identified. The Sudano-Guinean zone showed the highest disease frequencies, while the Sudanian zone showed the lowest. Further research is needed to determine the most effective plant species for treatment.

Advances and opportunities in malaria population genomics

Daniel E. Neafsey et al.

Summary: Nearly 20 years have passed since the first reference genome assemblies for Plasmodium falciparum and Anopheles gambiae were published. Having reference genomes for human malaria parasites and important mosquito vectors has advanced our understanding in disease biology, drug resistance, and vaccine development. Population genomics data are increasingly used to assess malaria epidemiology and intervention efficacy, presenting both opportunities and challenges in malaria control strategies.
