Artiodactyl livestock species have a uniform vomeronasal system with a vomeronasal type 1 receptor (V1R) pathway

Daisuke Kondoh et al.

Summary: This study found that artiodactyl livestock species have a uniform type of vomeronasal system, consisting only of the V1R pathway. This finding suggests caution when extrapolating knowledge of laboratory rodents with two vomeronasal pathways to livestock animals that have only one.

The expression of androstenone receptor (OR7D4) in vomeronasal organ and olfactory epithelium of horses

Y. Choi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the expression of OR7D4 in the VNO and OE of horses, with experiments detecting the presence of the OR7D4 gene in the equine VNO. Analysis through Western blot and immunofluorescence showed that horses are capable of perceiving androstenone through OR7D4 expressed in the VNO and OE.
