It is important for health sector managers and policymakers to facilitate the involvement of NGOs in the health sector to improve health outcomes and enhance public access to healthcare services.

Participation Status of Charities in Iran's Health System

Summary: The study found that 63% of charitable organizations used a combination of direct and indirect service delivery methods, with public donations being the main source of funding. Additionally, 94% of charities evaluated healthcare services regularly. It is suggested that creating sustainable funding sources and enhancing coordination between organizations are essential for optimizing the contributions of charities to the healthcare system.

Financial issues, trust deficit, weak relationships with the public sector, and lack of proper laws were identified as the main challenges. Building trust, passing laws, increasing public awareness, and capacity development are crucial measures to enhance the role of NGOs and address barriers to their participation in Iran's health-care system.

Involvement of charities in Iran's health care system: a qualitative study on problems and executive/legal/supportive requirements

However, they face challenges such as financial instability, lack of recognition of donors' legal status, limited involvement in policy-making, and weaknesses in advertising and attracting donations. The government is recommended to support these organizations by granting special facilities and exemptions, engaging them in policy-making processes, and empowering them to produce resources.
