DNA Barcoding and Phylogenomic Analysis of the Genus Fritillaria in China Based on Complete Chloroplast Genomes

Qi Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effectiveness of chloroplast genomes in species discrimination and explores the phylogeny of Fritillaria in China. The results demonstrate that most Fritillaria species can be correctly identified using chloroplast genomes, with four specific gene regions showing higher resolution. The analysis also reveals a geographic structure in the subgenus Fritillaria and raises questions about the taxonomic treatment of two suspicious species. Molecular dating suggests a significant association between the origin and divergence of Fritillaria and geological and climatic fluctuations.

Eranthis Salisb. (Ranunculaceae) in South Siberia: Insights into Phylogeography and Taxonomy

Marina Protopopova et al.

Summary: This study reports a reconstruction of the phylogenetic relationships between Siberian Eranthis species based on nuclear (ITS) and plastid (trnL + trnL-trnF + trnH-psbA) DNA. The phylogeographic structure of Siberian Eranthis is characterized by the presence of two eastern and western supergroups, which are likely the result of disjunction caused by mountain uplifts and subsequent Pleistocene cooling. E. tanhoensis is suggested to be a synonym of E. sibirica, as it is nested within the E. sibirica clade.
