Molecular phylogeny and historical biogeography of the cave fish genus Sinocyclocheilus (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae) in southwest China

Huamei Wen et al.

Summary: Genetic data provides insights into the classification and origins of Sinocyclocheilus species. This study revealed phylogenetic relationships, historical biogeography, and diversification patterns of the genus using mitochondrial genomes. The results suggest a new species group and indicate that the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau uplifts and Miocene climate change influenced the diversification of Sinocyclocheilus lineage.

Italian odonates in the Pandora's box: A comprehensive DNA barcoding inventory shows taxonomic warnings at the Holarctic scale

Andrea Galimberti et al.

Summary: This study conducted a DNA barcoding campaign on Odonata, revealing genetic divergence patterns and potential cryptic species among various morphospecies. The results provide new insights into odonate taxonomy and serve as a valuable basis for future DNA and eDNA-based monitoring studies.

Exploring the vertebrate fauna of the Bird's Head Peninsula (Indonesia, West Papua) through DNA barcodes

Evy Arida et al.

Summary: Biodiversity knowledge varies greatly across different biomes on Earth, with some remote areas experiencing large taxonomic knowledge gaps. Tropical biodiversity hotspots are of high concern due to rapid development of anthropogenic activities. The study in the Bird's Head Peninsula suggests that vertebrate diversity in the area is underestimated, highlighting the importance of further exploration and discussion on evolutionary origins and taxonomic knowledge.

Genetic landscape clustering of a large DNA barcoding data set reveals shared patterns of genetic divergence among freshwater fishes of the Maroni Basin

Yvan Papa et al.

Summary: This study utilized various methods to classify and identify fish species in the Maroni Basin, resulting in the discovery of 25 new candidate species and revealing more cryptic diversity. Genetic divergence showed significant differences between different regions, possibly due to lower levels of connectivity. A new method of ordination of genetic landscapes helped effectively categorize species based on their patterns of genetic divergence.

Molecular diversity of Uzbekistan's fishes assessed with DNA barcoding

Bakhtiyor Sheraliev et al.

Summary: Uzbekistan, one of two doubly landlocked countries in the world, has relatively poor fish diversity, but research has shown that nearly 89.3% of fish species can be distinguished by DNA barcoding.
