A holistic sequential fault detection and diagnostics framework for multiple zone variable air volume air handling unit systems

Narges Torabi et al.

Summary: A holistic fault detection and diagnostics method is proposed in this paper to consider the dependencies between faults and combines the detection and diagnosis processes of hardware faults and sequencing logic faults. The discrepancies between expected and measured operational behavior are visualized to detect faults, providing an interpretation for experts in facilities management to find and fix the root cause.

Fault detection of low global warming potential refrigerant supermarket refrigeration system: Experimental investigation

Jian Sun et al.

Summary: Supermarket refrigeration systems are one of the most energy-intensive components in commercial buildings, with the refrigeration system being the biggest consumer of energy. Improving efficiency and operational reliability, reducing refrigerant usage, and incorporating environmentally friendly alternatives can result in significant energy savings, improved food quality, environmental protection, reduced carbon footprint, and enhanced electric grid resilience. However, there is a lack of attention and research on fault detection and diagnostics for supermarket refrigeration systems, especially for those using low global warming potential refrigerants. This study aims to address this issue by conducting experimental research on common faults in supermarket refrigeration systems and develop methods for automated fault detection and diagnostics.

Dataset of low global warming potential refrigerant refrigeration system for fault detection and diagnostics

Jian Sun et al.

Summary: HVAC and refrigeration system fault detection and diagnostics have been extensively studied, but FDD of supermarket refrigeration systems has not received much attention. Supermarkets are significant electricity consumers with refrigeration systems accounting for a large portion of their energy usage. Challenges include the lack of publicly available data sets for benchmarking system performance and recording faulty performance.
