Performance evaluation between ternary blended SCC mixes containing induction furnace slag and crushed stone as coarse aggregate

P. Chandru et al.

Summary: The study compared the fresh and mechanical performance of ternary blended self-compacting concrete mixes made with induction furnace slag and natural crushed stone as coarse aggregate. The fresh properties of the mixes were significantly improved with the usage of IFS coarse aggregate, but the mechanical performance of mixes containing IFS coarse aggregate was slightly inferior to those made with natural crushed stone coarse aggregate. Utilization of silica fume and ground granulated blast furnace slag enhanced the mechanical properties of the mixes through secondary hydration process.

Temporal flowability evolution of slag-based self-compacting concrete with recycled concrete aggregate

Victor Revilla-Cuesta et al.

Summary: The addition of fine recycled concrete aggregate and CEM III/A can improve the initial slump flow and passing ability of concrete, while the addition of natural aggregate and CEM I results in less loss of flowability. The addition of fine recycled concrete aggregate increases viscosity and air content, but the addition of limestone fines 0/0.5 mm can enhance the flowability and strength of concrete. Mixtures with CEM III/A, 50% fine recycled concrete aggregate, and limestone fines 0/0.5 mm show an optimal balance between flowability, compressive strength, and carbon footprints.
