Effects of environmental aging on the adsorption behavior of antibiotics from aqueous solutions in microplastic-graphene coexisting systems

Ningning Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption behavior of microplastics (MPs) and graphene oxide (GO) in aquatic environments, with increased adsorption capacity of aged MPs and enhanced adsorption of antibiotics in aged MPs-GO/rGO coexisting systems. The research provides insights into the environmental behavior of MPs and graphene, offering guidance on strategies for preventing antibiotic migration in MPs-GO/rGO coexisting systems.

Structural landscape investigations on bendable plastic crystals of isonicotinamide polymorphs

Jianting Li et al.

Summary: This study discovered that three polymorphs of isonicotinamide exhibited one-dimensional plasticity, and the disparity of intermolecular interactions played a crucial role in determining the plastic properties of the crystals. The findings suggest the importance of plasticity in pharmaceuticals and material sciences.

Degradation and adsorption behavior of biodegradable plastic PLA under conventional weathering conditions

Qiyu Qin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of biodegradable plastic PLA and its adsorption behavior with tetracycline under weathering conditions. The results showed that weathered PLA had cracks and holes on the surface, increased oxygen-containing functional groups, and enhanced adsorption capacity. However, the surface of microplastics weathered by seawater did not change significantly.

Double network hydrogels for energy/environmental applications: challenges and opportunities

Liqing Li et al.

Summary: Double network (DN) hydrogels have thrived as smart soft materials since their advent nearly 20 years ago. Their unique structures and adjustable crosslinking methods overcome the limitations of single network hydrogels in terms of mechanical properties. DN hydrogels with remarkable mechanical properties, excellent hydrophilicity, fast self-healing, high conductivity, and rapid stimulus responsiveness are considered promising candidates for energy and environmental applications.

Summary: The study found that extensive resection may not always prolong survival in patients with gliomas. In addition to clinical characteristics, molecular pathology also positively impacts survival in gliomas. Neurosurgeons may benefit from considering both factors when planning surgery for glioma patients in the future.

Summary: This study identified two new bacterial strains, Pseudomonas lini JNU01 and Acinetobacter johnsonii JNU01, with high biodegradation efficiency towards PS. Through bioinformatics and transcriptional analysis, the involvement of alkane-1-monooxygenase (AlkB) in PS biodegradation was confirmed. These findings provide significant insights into the potential of Pseudomonas sp. and Acinetobacter sp. as decomposers of PS.

The fate of plastic in the ocean environment - a minireview

Chloe Wayman et al.

Summary: Plastics in the marine environment pose a significant threat to ocean life, especially smaller plastic particles that can be ingested by marine biota. This leads to a dramatic increase in ocean plastic littering and harmful effects on marine organisms. Degradation, volatile compound release, and oxidation are the main mechanisms of plastic deterioration in the ocean.
