Intracystic Glucose and Carcinoembryonic Antigen in Differentiating Histologically Confirmed Pancreatic Mucinous Neoplastic Cysts

Zachary L. Smith et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of glucose and CEA concentrations in differentiating MNPC. The results showed that intracystic glucose concentration is superior to CEA concentration, and glucose has the advantages of low cost and ease of implementation.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

Predictors of adverse events after endoscopic ultrasound-guided through-the-needle biopsy of pancreatic cysts: a recursive partitioning analysis

Antonio Facciorusso et al.

Summary: This study identified independent predictors for adverse events (AEs) related to endoscopic ultrasound-guided through-the-needle biopsy (TTNB) of pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs). Age, number of TTNB passes, complete aspiration of the cyst, and diagnosis of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) were found to be significant predictors. Recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) classified patients into high-risk, low-risk, and middle-risk classes. The findings support the selective use of TTNB in the evaluation of patients with IPMN.

Clinical impact of endoscopic ultrasound-guided through-the-needle microbiopsy in patients with pancreatic cysts

Bojan Kovacevic et al.

Summary: This prospective study demonstrated that TTNBs have a clinical impact and provide higher diagnostic accuracy in patients with pancreatic cystic lesions, but come with a substantial risk of adverse events. Further research is needed to determine in which subgroups of patients the clinical benefit outweighs the risks.

Summary: KRAS/GNAS-testing by deep targeted NGS is an effective method to distinguish mucinous from non-mucinous pancreatic lesions with high sensitivity and specificity. Therefore, it can be used as a single diagnostic test, offering potential improvements in patient management.

Micro-RNA Analysis of Pancreatic Cyst Fluid for Diagnosing Malignant Transformation of Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm by Comparing Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Adenoma and Carcinoma

Summary: This study investigated the use of miRNA in pancreatic cyst fluid as a marker for evaluating malignant alternation of IPMN. Six miRNAs were found to be significantly enriched in IPMC compared to IPMA. Further evaluation with larger cohorts is needed to confirm the efficacy of cyst fluid miRNA analysis for diagnosing malignant alteration of IPMN.
