Interplay of Solid-Liquid Interactions and Anisotropic Aggregation in Solution: The Case Study of γ-AlOOH Crystallites

Audrey Valette et al.

Summary: This study presents a mechanism for the formation of gamma-AlOOH boehmite nanorods under hydrothermal conditions, based on a comprehensive characterization of the final product, kinetic studies, and surface energy calculations. Boehmite nanorods with a width of 10 nm and a length exceeding 100 nm were successfully obtained under slightly acidic conditions. Through kinetic studies and DFT calculations, it was revealed that the morphology of the boehmite nanorods is not in line with the thermodynamically stable state.

Washcoat Overlayer for Improved Activity and Stability of Natural Gas Vehicle Monolith Catalysts Operating in the Presence of H2O and SO2

Hamad Almohamadi et al.

Summary: The application of a gamma-AlOOH/gamma-Al2O3 washcoat overlayer on a PdO(Pt/CeO2)/gamma-AlOOH/gamma-Al2O3 catalyst on cordierite is shown to reduce the impact of H2O and SO2 on the catalyst activity and stability during CH4 oxidation at low temperatures. The washcoat overlayer provides additional adsorption sites for SOx and H2O, resulting in higher activity and improved stability of the catalysts in the presence of both SO2 and H2O for up to 200 hours.

Effect of Pore Size Distribution on Capillary Condensation in Nanoporous Media

Elizabeth Barsotti et al.

Summary: The research indicates that the absence of clear capillary condensation in the isotherms of most naturally occurring nanoporous media is due to the broad pore size distribution of the materials. By mixing different sizes of adsorbents, it was found that the phase behavior in different pore sizes is additive, suppressing the appearance of capillary condensation. By comparing isotherms of mixtures to those of single pore sizes, correlations using the Lorentzian function were developed to determine porosity and fluid density straightforwardly.

Reverse micelle-mediated synthesis of plate-assembled hierarchical three-dimensional flower-like gamma-alumina particles

Didi Prasetyo Benu et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical three-dimensional gamma-Al2O3 flower-like particles were successfully synthesized using a reverse micelle-mediated solvothermal method. A systematic timedependent study revealed the phase composition changes of the nanostructures during synthesis. The effects of key synthetic parameters on the properties of the products were investigated, with higher CTAB concentration promoting the formation of gamma-Al2O3 products. Higher urea content resulted in wider particle size distribution, while higher water content led to an increased surface area of the products.
