An abiotic fluorescent probe for the detection and quantification of carcinoembryonic antigen

Jung-Seop Lee et al.

Summary: The reported methods mainly utilize biomolecules such as antibodies, enzymes, and aptamers for biomarker detection, but the use of abiotic fluorescent probes for detecting cancer biomarkers like carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) has not been reported. In this study, an abiotic fluorescent probe, BIQ-1, was designed for the rapid and straightforward detection of CEA. Bioinformatics tools and molecular docking techniques were used to develop the selective detection and quantification of CEA using the probe BIQ-1 in a buffer matrix resembling serum. The probe showed a limit of detection of 0.2 ng/mL for CEA in a simple cuvette-based experiment, with no interference from potential interfering components at higher concentrations than CEA.
