Moringa oleifera Lam.: A comparative survey on consumer knowledge, usage, attitude and belief in Africa and India

Amel Hedhili et al.

Summary: This study examined the knowledge, consumption, attitudes, and beliefs towards Moringa oleifera in African countries (Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa) and India. The findings showed differences in Moringa consumption patterns between Indian and African respondents, but no significant difference in beliefs and attitudes towards Moringa. Positive attitudes and beliefs alone are not sufficient to drive Moringa consumption behavior, as past behavior seems to be a better indicator. To promote Moringa consumption in Africa, incorporating it into familiar local foods and considering family factors are important.

SCAR Marker Development for the Identification of Elite Germplasm of Moringa Oleifera Lam.-A Never Die Plant

Drisya Ravi et al.

Summary: Drumstick (Moringa oleifera Lam.) is a plant from the Moringaceae family, originating from the sub-Himalayan tracts of Northern India and distributed worldwide in tropical and sub-tropical regions. In this study, a set of RAPD-SCAR markers were developed to identify superior germplasm of M. oleifera from South India. Among 120 surveyed trees, 23 were selected as Candidate Plus Trees (CPTs) based on fruit yield and weight, with CPT17 identified as elite germplasm. The RAPD analysis of CPTs showed 89.61% polymorphism, with specific markers developed for CPT17 genotype.
