Multiplex molecular marker-assisted analysis of significant pathogens of cotton (Gossypium sp.)

R. L. Chavhan et al.

Summary: Plant pathogens reduce crop quality and yield, resulting in economic losses. Molecular markers based on ITS regions, pthN gene, and CP gene can be used for early and accurate detection of fungal, bacterial, and viral pathogens, respectively. The development of multiplexed assays allows the simultaneous detection of multiple pathogens.

7000-year-old evidence of fruit tree cultivation in the Jordan Valley, Israel

Dafna Langgut et al.

Summary: This study presents evidence of early fruit tree cultivation in the Central Jordan Valley, Israel, dating back to 7000 years ago. The discovery of charred olive wood and fig branches at the Tel Tsaf site suggests horticulture practices were established during that time. The cultivation of olive and fig trees may have contributed to the development of more sophisticated social contracts and institutions.

Why Should Pistachio Be a Regular Food in Our Diet?

Raquel Mateos et al.

Summary: Pistachio is a nutritious nut with low-fat content, high vegetable protein and dietary fiber, rich minerals, and vitamins C and E. It contains phytochemicals that have beneficial effects on various pathological conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, CVD, and cancer. Although less studied than other nuts, numerous studies have shown the positive impact of pistachio consumption on lipid and glucose homeostasis, endothelial function, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

Potential Role of Biocontrol Agents for Sustainable Management of Fungal Pathogens Causing Canker and Fruit Rot of Pistachio in Italy

Giorgio Gusella et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of different biological control agents against canker pathogens of pistachio. Results showed that all the tested biological agents were able to inhibit the mycelial growth of the pathogens in vitro, but had limited effect in reducing infections in dynamic experiments. Only a few specific pathogens showed partial inhibition. Detached fruit experiments demonstrated that these biological control agents had a certain efficacy in reducing lesions caused by the pathogen Neofusicoccum mediterraneum.

Cultivar and Rootstock Effects on Growth, Yield and Nut Quality of Pistachio under Semi-Arid Conditions of South Mediterranean

Samiha Ouni et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the growth, yield, and fruit characteristics of 'Mateur' and 'Achouri' pistachio cultivars grafted on P. vera and P. atlantica rootstocks in northeastern Tunisia. Results showed that annual bio-climatic features significantly affected all parameters studied. 'Mateur' cultivar had higher vigor and fruit yield compared to 'Achouri'. Fruit production was higher in P. atlantica rootstock for 'Mateur' but similar in both studied rootstocks for 'Achouri'. The fatty acid profiles of the kernels were not significantly affected by the cultivar, rootstock, or their combination.

SCoT markers provide insight into the genetic diversity, population structure and phylogenetic relationships among three Pistacia species of Iran

Abdolkarim Zarei et al.

Summary: Genetic variability, phylogenetic relationship, and population structure were evaluated among 50 accessions of three Iranian Pistacia species using SCoT primers and morphological traits. High levels of genetic diversity were observed among the accessions, with P. khinjuk identified as the most diverse species. P. vera and P. khinjuk were found to be the most closely related species, while P. atlantica and P. vera showed the highest genetic differentiation.
