A systematic examination of the impacts of MOF flexibility on intracrystalline molecular diffusivities

Yuhan Yang et al.

Summary: This study compared the self-diffusion coefficients of 12 adsorbates in MOFs with flexible and rigid frameworks, and found that framework flexibility has a significant impact on molecular diffusion. By introducing a descriptor to estimate loaded window sizes, a practical approach to qualitatively assess the influence of framework flexibility on molecular diffusion was provided.

Combined Deep Learning and Classical Potential Approach for Modeling Diffusion in UiO-66

Siddarth K. Achar et al.

Summary: This study proposes a hybrid potential approach that combines accurate machine learning atomistic potentials with classical potentials to model the diffusion of adsorbates in metal-organic frameworks. By using an accurate deep learning potential and Lennard-Jones potentials, the diffusivities of adsorbates can be accurately computed without the need for refitting. This approach allows for modeling the response of the adsorbent to the presence of the adsorbate, and can be applied to other frameworks and adsorbates.

Slow CO2 Diffusion Governed by Steric Hindrance of Rotatory Ligands in Small Pores of a Metal-Organic Framework

Takuya Kurihara et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamics of CO2 adsorption and diffusion in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were investigated using solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The rotational motion of ligands in the narrow pore windows of MOFs was found to affect the dynamics of adsorbed CO2. The diffusion rate of adsorbed CO2 was significantly slower in the MOFs with smaller pores, and it was influenced by the steric hindrance of the rotating ligands. Additionally, the diffusion of adsorbed CH4 was also affected by the steric hindrance, showing a size-selective effect.
