Measurement of seismometer misorientation based on P-wave polarization: application to permanent seismic network in South Korea

Young Oh Son et al.

Summary: Reliable information on the horizontal orientation of a seismometer is crucial for seismological research. The study found that a significant percentage of broadband seismometers in South Korea have misorientation angles, providing useful reference for seismic data preprocessing in earthquake sciences.

A Novel Method for Determining Geophone Orientations From Zero-Offset VSP Data Constrained by Scalar Field

Yuyong Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to solve the problem of misaligned geophone orientations in VSP acquisition. By extracting the slope of seismic events using the scalar wavefield, the orientation of individual geophones can be accurately determined. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can provide horizontal component VSP data wavefields with higher accuracy and resolution.

Optimization and Quality Assessment of Arrival Time Picking for Downhole Microseismic Events

Jiaxuan Leng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a quality assessment method based on waveform similarity coefficients and a global optimization algorithm based on iterative cross-correlation for optimizing arrival time picking results in microseismic data. The results show that the proposed method can produce more robust and reliable arrival times compared to traditional picking methods.

Using microseismic events to improve the accuracy of sensor orientation for downhole microseismic monitoring

Yuanhang Huo et al.

Summary: Event locations are crucial for microseismic monitoring efforts, and the accuracy of the sensor orientation depends on the signal-to-noise ratio and calibration accuracy. A new method is proposed to improve sensor orientation by incorporating high-signal-to-noise ratio microseismic events with unknown back-azimuth angles. This method significantly enhances the accuracy of relative orientation angles among sensors and improves the overall accuracy of the microseismic location.
