Next-Generation Sequencing-Based Study of Helicobacter pylori Isolates from Myanmar and Their Susceptibility to Antibiotics

Phawinee Subsomwong et al.

Summary: The prevalence of H. pylori infection and its resistance to metronidazole is high in Myanmar. Classical triple therapy remains effective as a first-line treatment. Next-generation sequencing is a powerful tool for identifying mutations and monitoring the spread of antibiotic-resistant strains.

Low clarithromycin resistance in virulent Helicobacter pylori from dyspeptic patients at a tertiary care centre in Odisha

Vinaykumar Hallur et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the antibiotic resistance and virulence factors of Helicobacter pylori (HP) in dyspeptic patients from Odisha, India. The results showed that some patients had resistance to clarithromycin, and certain virulence subtypes were significantly associated with peptic ulcers.

Helicobacter pylori Antibiotic Resistance in Egypt: A Single-Center Study

Mohamed Metwally et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antibiotic resistance of H. pylori in Egyptian patients. The results showed that H. pylori has high resistance to metronidazole and amoxicillin, while having low resistance to quinolones. This has important implications for the choice of eradication therapy for H. pylori in Egypt.

Multidrug-Resistant Helicobacter pylori Strains: A Five-Year Surveillance Study and Its Genome Characteristics

Asif Sukri et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of secondary antibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pylori in urban multicultural areas in Malaysia. The results showed high resistance rates of H. pylori to multiple antibiotics, particularly dual resistance to clarithromycin and metronidazole. Additionally, amoxicillin-resistant H. pylori strains and their resistance mechanisms were reported for the first time in Malaysian patients.

Helicobacter pylori Antimicrobial Resistance and Gene Variants in High- and Low-Gastric-Cancer-Risk Populations

Anthony Mannion et al.

Summary: Colombia in South America has a high burden of Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric cancer. Multidrug antibiotic regimens can effectively eradicate H. pylori, but treatment efficacy is threatened by the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains. This study found that H. pylori isolates from Colombia exhibit multidrug antibiotic resistance.

Helicobacter pylori infection and antibiotic resistance - from biology to clinical implications

Evariste Tshibangu-Kabamba et al.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori is a major human pathogen with increasing antibiotic resistance posing a serious threat to human health. The resistance mechanisms include single drug resistance, multidrug resistance, and heteroresistance, primarily related to mutational changes and target-mediated mechanisms. Further research is needed to explore additional biological attributes driving drug resistance in H. pylori for better treatment outcomes.

Susceptibility-guided versus empirical treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Rachel Gingold-Belfer et al.

Summary: The study suggests that susceptibility-guided treatment may be slightly superior to empirical first-line triple therapy for previously untreated Helicobacter pylori infection. However, susceptibility-guided treatment does not appear to be superior to empirical first-line quadruple therapy or empirical rescue therapy.
